Am 16. Oktober 1969 beginnt in Frankfurt am Main der Prozeß gegen die SDS-Mitglieder Günter Amendt, Karl Dietrich Wolff und Hans-Jürgen Krahl wegen "Rädelsführerschaft" bei der am 22. September 1968 stattgefundenen Demonstration gegen die Verleihung des Friedenspreises des Deutschen Buchhandels an Leopold Senghor, dem autoritären, aber vom Westen hofierten "Dichterpräsidenten" Senegals. Im Rahmen dieses Prozesses hält Krahl, der führende Kopf des Frankfurter SDS, eine freie Rede, in der er in Form einer politischen Autobiographie seine Hinwendung zur revolutionären Studentenbewegung schildert und mit Rekurs auf Marx, Horkheimer, Sartre, Marcuse und Bloch die Notwendigkeit begründet, den Kapitalismus abzuschaffen. Am 24. Dezember 1969 werden die drei Angeklagten wegen Aufruhr, Landfriedensbruch und Rädelsführerschaft zu jeweils einem Jahr und neun Monaten Gefängnis verurteilt. Krahl geht in Revision. Noch vor Aufnahme des neuen Verfahrens kommt er am 14. Februar 1970 bei einem Verkehrsunfall ums Leben.
